System for categorizing the risk of farms in the veterinary public health sector
ClassyFarm is the Ministry of Health’s surveillance system for monitoring livestock farms and characterising them according to risk. The main areas of interest are animal welfare, farm biosecurity, slaughterhouse data and antimicrobials (use and resistance).
ClassyFarm can process a large amount of data from different sources, integrating and analysing them through business intelligence processes.

Data flow in the ClassyFarm system. Input can come from different sources. Once the data has been processed, the output is made available to registered users through various interactive dashboards. In addition, PDF reports summarising data can be downloaded from some of these dashboards.
The system is intended for both public stakeholders (state veterinary officers, competent authorities, etc.) and private stakeholders (veterinarians, farmers, supply chains, etc.). Registered users can access ClassyFarm through the Italian Veterinary Information System (www.vetinfo.it).
ClassyFarm is an initiative of the Ministry of Health (www.salute.gov.it) and is the result of many years of collaboration between numerous public and private entities, under the coordination of the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale della Lombardia e dell’Emilia Romagna (IZSLER – www.izsler.it). In addition, the Italian Ministry of Agriculture (www.politicheagricole.it) has chosen ClassyFarm as one of the tools it will use to allocate funds under the 2023-2027 CAP.
